Buffer and SocialRobot both ship MCP servers, and both take the same safety stance: the agent drafts and schedules, but nothing publishes until you approve it. The difference is what happens between "connect" and "approve." Buffer wraps its queue in MCP; SocialRobot exposes a broader tool surface that reaches into analytics, audience data, and platform lookups.
This comparison is based on each product's MCP offering as of August 2026. For the full field, see the ranking of social media MCP servers.

What Buffer's MCP does well
Buffer is the trusted name here, and its MCP is official and hosted, so setup is pasting a URL and an API key into your client. The workflow is deliberately simple: you ask the assistant to draft or schedule, and the post lands in the familiar Buffer queue, where it waits for your review like anything else you queued by hand. If your week already runs out of that queue, the MCP changes nothing about how you work.
Platform coverage is wide across mainstream channels: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, and Google Business. And because MCP is free on every plan including the free tier, you can test the whole loop before paying; the only pricing is per-channel billing from $5/channel/mo on Essentials annual.
The trade-off is scope. The tool set is built around scheduling, so insights come from the queue rather than callable analytics tools, and there is no equivalent of reschedule or delete as first-class agent actions in the way deeper servers expose them.
What SocialRobot's MCP does well
SocialRobot's MCP server is remote and connects over OAuth 2.0 with PKCE (one browser consent, no keys to manage) or an API key if your client prefers. It exposes 17 tools, and the shape of that list is the real argument:
- Post management as first-class tools:
create_post, list,reschedule_post, anddelete_post, so moving Thursday to Friday is one instruction instead of a queue edit. - Callable analytics:
get_account_analyticsandget_post_analytics, plusget_follower_demographicsfor who actually follows you. - Platform-aware lookups that agents get wrong by hand:
instagram_best_post_timesfrom your own history,linkedin_search_geo_locations,linkedin_search_organizations, andlinkedin_search_people_mentionsfor company page targeting and mentions,tiktok_get_creator_info, and Pinterest board discovery and creation viapinterest_list_boardsandpinterest_create_board.
Like Buffer, every post the agent creates lands in the SocialRobot calendar for review before it goes live. MCP is free on every plan.
Which should you pick?
Pick Buffer if your publishing life already lives in its queue. The MCP slots into an existing habit, covers nine mainstream platforms, and costs nothing beyond the per-channel plan you may already be on.
Pick SocialRobot if you want the deeper tool surface: reschedule and delete as agent instructions, analytics and demographics you can query mid-conversation, and platform lookups (best times, LinkedIn targeting, mentions) built for agents. It is also the better fit if you want a bilingual EN/ES product.
Both servers are free to connect, so the honest answer is to wire up both clients, run the same prompt against each, and keep the one whose review flow you actually trust.
Connect your accounts and let your agent publish.
