Etsy image sizes in 2026
Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels wide and tall. Smaller photos still publish with a warning, but the first photo needs at least 635 pixels on each side or the listing can show up lower in search. Keep each file under 1 MB: Etsy says larger files may not finish uploading.
The resizer above exports JPEGs at 2000 pixels on the short side and lowers the quality just enough to stay under 1 MB. Pick 4:3 for a landscape photo or 1:1 for a square one. Etsy asks for the first photo to be landscape or square.

How Etsy crops your thumbnails
Etsy cuts square, portrait and landscape thumbnails from your first photo, depending on where it shows. Shop Home shows listings square, and the search results we checked on 25 October 2026 used 4:5 portrait tiles.
So keep the item in the middle with room around it. On the 4:3 crop, the outer lines show the square thumbnail and the inner lines the 4:5 one: anything outside the inner lines may be cut somewhere on Etsy. The listing editor also lets you preview and adjust the thumbnail before you publish.
Photos that help a listing sell
- Make the first photo one finished item, clear and well lit, not a collage. Etsy gives listings with a sharp, single-item first photo better placement in search.
- Include at least one unedited photo of the actual item on a real background. Etsy requires it from October 2026; edited photos can go in the other slots. Print-on-demand items and digital downloads have their own rules.
- Show scale: the ring on a hand, the print on a wall, the bag next to a phone.
- Show what buyers ask about: the texture, the stitching, the back, the gift box.
- Shoot in daylight and keep colors true. Etsy converts photos to sRGB, so very saturated colors can shift.
Use the same photo on Pinterest and Instagram
