Most eBay sales start in eBay search. Promotion makes a good listing reach more of the right buyers, but it can’t rescue a listing they skip once they see it. So the order matters: fix the listing, use eBay’s own tools where they pay off, then bring in buyers from outside eBay.
Start with a listing worth promoting
Everything you do later sends people to the listing page, so check these four things first:
- Title. You get 80 characters. Lead with brand, model and item type, then the details people filter by: size, color, capacity, year. Check it with the eBay title character counter.
- Photos. You get up to 24 for free, and the first one is what buyers see in search. Shoot on a plain background in daylight at about 1600 pixels, and show labels, flaws and what is included. eBay doesn’t allow added text, borders or watermarks.
- Item specifics. Buyers filter by them. A missing size or brand hides the listing from anyone who used that filter.
- Price and shipping. Search the same item with the Sold items filter to see what it actually sells for, not what people ask.
eBay’s own promotion tools
Start small. Put a handful of items on Promoted Listings General at a low rate, then compare extra sales with ad fees in Seller Hub before spending more.
Share your listings outside eBay
Every eBay listing has a Share button with Pinterest, Facebook, X, WhatsApp and a copy link, which is fine for a one-off post. Seller Hub also has a Social page: you link a Facebook Page and an Instagram business account (Pinterest and, in some countries, YouTube and TikTok too), post or schedule posts that link to a listing, and let it share your first few new listings each day.
That covers listing links. Buyers follow resellers for more than links, though: the finds, the details, the weekly roundup. Post on the networks where people look for what you sell:
Two habits make it work. Post the item, not the link: a good photo and one line about why it is special gets the click, and the link goes in the Pin, the bio or the caption. And keep it going: three to five items a week, every week, beats twenty links on the day you list.
If listing links are all you want to post, eBay’s Social page may be enough. A scheduler like SocialRobot is for the rest: posts that aren’t links, networks eBay doesn’t cover, and anything you also sell outside eBay, all on one calendar.
What to post, so it isn’t just links

- The find. Where it came from and why you picked it up. People follow resellers for the story.
- The details. A close-up of the label, the stitching, the serial number. It answers the questions buyers would message you about.
- In use. The jacket worn, the lamp switched on, the mixer on a counter.
- The roundup. “Five vintage cameras listed this week” as one carousel, with the shop link.
- Sold. A short “sold, thank you” post shows that things move and brings people back for the next one.
A weekly routine that takes an hour
Pick this week’s items
Choose three to five listings with the best photos or the best story. You don’t need to post everything.
Crop one set of photos
Make a tall 2:3 version for Pinterest and a 4:5 version for Instagram from the same photo with the Pinterest image resizer and the Instagram image resizer.
Write one caption per item
Start from your eBay title, add one sentence about the item, and put the listing link where the network allows it.
Schedule the week
Spread the posts across the week at times your buyers are around. Best time to post on Pinterest and on Instagram are good starting points. With SocialRobot, you write each post once, see how it looks on each network, and it goes out on time.
Check what sold
At the end of the week, look at which items got views and sales after a post. Do more of what worked next week.
Start this week
- Create a free SocialRobot account. The Free plan needs no card.
- Connect Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok.
- Pick three listings and schedule one post for each this week.
